He was predeceased by: his parents, Mildred Metcalf and C. P. "Pete" Metcalf; and his sister-in-law Diana Metcalf. He is survived by: his children, Amy (Adam Bowers) of Dalhart and Chris of Amarillo; his grandchildren, Braxton (Caroline Bowers) of Lubbock, Addison Bowers of Amarillo and Conner Metcalf of Amarillo; his great grandchild Beau Bowers of Lubbock; and his siblings, Nancy (Vernon Bryant, II) of Ft. Worth, Jerry Metcalf (Sharon) of Houston and Keith Metcalf of Dalhart. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
