He was predeceased by : his parents, S. A. Jr. Haney and Fae Haney (Morgan). He is survived by : his wife Melba Haney of Decatur; his children, Kevin Haney (Julie) of Decatur and Karen Slimp (Rick) of Decatur; his grandchildren, Jeremy Slimp (Taylor) of Decatur, Eric Slimp (Samantha) of Ft. Worth, Kayla Scoggins (Chad) of Hurst, Blake Haney (Blakely) of Haslet, Morgan Holzbog (Kevin) of Decatur and Harrison Haney of Mineral Wells; his great grandchildren, Kaidan Slimp, Marcie Slimp, Parker Holzbog, Madelyn Slimp, Ryan Slimp and Ellen Holzbog; and his sister Joyce Beard of Bridgeport.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Decatur Basecamp Children's Building Fund.

Johnny E Taylor wrote a sympathy message

“I met Ed (we called him Jim) at EMC plastics in Denton in August of 1986. I can't possibly list all of the things I learned from Ed. He was a great mentor, teacher and just plain nice to be around. I remember his smile and working 12-1/2 hour shifts over the holidays to get a mold finished. I am grateful to have worked with Jim and I know I am a better man for having done so. Rest in peace my friend. John Taylor”
