She was predeceased by: her parents, Raymond Wilson Davenport and Thelma English Davenport; her husband Roger S. Bell; her daughter Sandra Peters (John); and her siblings, Carol Sue Davenport and Raymond Wilson Davenport, Jr..
She is survived by: her daughters, Susan Evans (David), Sally Turley and Shirley Baird. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In 1987 she received the Golden Gazelle Award from the Project on Equal Education Rights for outstanding contributions to promote educational equity.
