She is survived by : her husband James Rodney Gambrell; her daughter Anna Gambrell Chambers; her son-in-law Duane Chambers; and her granddaughter Lillian Kate Chambers.

“Dear Family, I am wondering if Shirley was my awesome English teacher at Franklin Jr High....I was a ninth grader in 1975-76. She was a fantastic teacher and my favorite for my high school years. I have not seen her since as my parents moved me to a different school system for my soph year. If you have time, would you confirm If I have the correct Shirley Gambrell? She made a lasting impact on me- her teaching style and kindness to me were just what I needed in 9th grade Thank you, Susan Swanson”
