He was predeceased by: his parents, Willard Schafer and Mary Schafer; and his sisters, Miriam Kooken, Doris Ross, Norma Dershem, Phyllis Dresbach and Jerelyn Schafer.
He is survived by: his wife Anna Lynn Schafer; his children, Lou Ann Schafer of Michigan, Jonathan Schafer (Beth Cantrell Schafer) and Melissa Schafer Spilker (Chris Spilker); his grandchildren, Lauren Schafer Brown (Joe Brown), Adam Spilker, Gillian Schafer, Cameron Spilker and Gracelyn Spilker; and his daughter Joetta Neal. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
