Mae Will Durham was born on August 12, 1930 to Erie Moody Burdon and Jonnie Burdon in Calvert, TX.
Mae W. Durham received her formal education at Booker T. Washington High School. She furthered her education by receiving several diplomas and certifications from the following colleges/universities: Southern Methodist University, Texas Women’s University, Mary Allen Seminary, and El Centro Community College.
Mae W. Durham accepted Christ at an early age at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne Texas. As a youth, Mae sung in the church choir and led her youth group. Upon moving to Dallas, Mae served as a faithful member to several churches: Golden Gates Baptist Church, Greater People Baptist Church, and South Oak Cliff Baptist Church under the Pastorship of Dr. Harry A. Garrett. She was an entrusted lay member that served as presidents of several Pastor Search Committees, Pastor Aides Committees, Coordinator of several Family and Friends Day, and Church Anniversaries She was also a treasure and a Sunday School Teacher.
Mae W. Durham was united in holy matrimony with Ike Lee Durham and to this union six beautiful children were raised in love.
She was employed as the Lead Health Coordinator with Dallas Independent School District
Nutrition Office at the Head Start of Greater Dallas. She later became a business owner with her husband and opened Ike’s Detail Shop.
Mae loved to fish, watch sports, and play cards with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, and making homemade jams and preservatives for her family. She was an avid volunteer in her community. She saw it as a blessing to give back to her community.
Her professional affiliations include the N.A.A.C.P, YMCA and the Community Action Center.
Mae W. Durham transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday March 2, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband Ike Lee Durham, daughter Ramona Gail Durham, Parents Erie Moody Burdon and Jonnie Burdon, and Sisters Pearlie Govan and Johnnie Mae Burdon. She is survived by 1 brother: Alfonso Moody Burdon (Brother Boy) and her loving children: Erie Evans (James), Cleo Thomas (Treval), Dwight McDonald, Gary Durham (Ebony), and Rayvis Roberson (Tommy). Her legacy includes 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
