She was predeceased by : her parents, Benjamin Russell and Evie Mae Tubbe Kirkland; her former life partner Jefferson Cornelius; her husband J. C.; and her siblings, Opal Goodson, Audrey Nell Parker, Bernice Adams, Cecil Kirkland and Russell Kirkland, Jr..

She is survived by : her daughters, Renee Wilson (John) and Theresa Bruner; her grandchildren, Kristen Wilson, Mark Wilson (Amanda), Kasey Shelton and Emily Bruner; and her great grandchild Harper Ava Wilson. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
