He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Stires and Soledad Stires (Carrillo); his wife Matilde Stires; his son Raymond Stires; and his siblings, Roberto Stires, Dora Meeks, Alicia Perez, Esperanza Gregg and Lucille Sharar.
He is survived by: his children, Joe L. Stires (Jenny), Robert A. Stires (Susan), Richard D. Stires (Rosa), Michael A. Stires (Maxine), Rosalie A. Ampey (Ron) and Susan L. Gonzalez (Joe); his grandchildren, Joshua, Amanda Ampey, Tonya, Maegen, Melanie Stires, Michele, Elizabeth, Andrew Stires, Joseph and Brianna Gonzalez; and his sisters, Mary Booth and Ruth Kiser. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
