He was predeceased by: his parents, Oliver Gilbert and Alene Gilbert. He is survived by: his wife Katherine "Kay" Stern Gilbert; his son Robert W. Gilbert (Erika); his stepsons, Michael Stern (Lisa) and William Stern (Angie); his granddaughter Julia Gilbert; and his stepgrandchildren, Tyler Stern, Max Stern, Lindsay Stern, Mallorie Sutton, Jake Benson, Brody Stern and Viviana Stern. He is also survived by his family, his fellow.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Sunset Funeral Homes - Northeast (4631 Hondo Pass Dr, El Paso, TX 79904). A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery (5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906).
