He was predeceased by : his parents, John William Brooks, Sr. and Henrietta Brooks (Long); his son John William Brooks III; his brother Randell Brooks; and his siblings-in-law, Tom Burkett and Kay Brooks.

He is survived by : his children, Blake Brooks of Emory, TX, Brittany Brooks of Grand Saline, TX, Kristy Day (Bradley Day) of Ashdown, AR and Amy Wiley (Dalton Wiley) of Emory, TX.; his grandchildren, Blake Brooks, Lucas Nelson, Will Wiley and Channing Day; and his siblings, Millicent Burkett of Punxsutawney, James Brooks, Joel Brooks (Judy) and Dave Brooks (Cindy Seger).
