Robert leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Robert’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around him. He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Slay and Bonnie Evelyn Green; and his sister Drinda Sullivan. He is survived by: his significant other Patty Slay; his daughters, Dana Shortes and Robin Olivarez; his son-in-law Kurt Shortes; his grandchildren, Morgan Taylor (Tristan Taylor), Kaleigh Shortes, Caroline Irby (Noah Irby), Victoria Olivarez and Gracie Olivarez; and his great grandchild Brantley Olivarez. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Friday, August 28th 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Green Funeral Home (105 Vintage Dr, Red Oak, TX 75154).
