He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Sparks and Vivian Sparks. He is survived by: his wife Ruby Sparks; his children, Yolanda Sparks, Alphonso Sparks Jr. (Latifa) and Cecil Sparks (Brandie); his granddaughter Jasmine Sparks; and his sister Alice Hampton. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He served as president of a Sickle Cell Anemia organization and was able to influence IBM to donate a large sum of money to aid in the fight against the disease.
