She was predeceased by: her parents, Guffary "Mac" Mathis and Muriel Mathis; her husband Benjamin Whitaker; her sister Judith Bowers; her daughter Pamela Dovey; and her pet Chessie.
She is survived by: her children, Cathleen Carter (Jon) and Steven Whitaker (Gracie); and her grandsons, Gregory and Daniel Whitaker. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.
