We announce the death of Hilda Marquez Martinez of Freer, Texas, who passed away on October 11, 2026, at the age of 84. She was predeceased by: her parents, Gregorio Marquez and Inez Elkins Marquez; her husband Pedro Martinez; her son David Rey Martinez; her siblings, Domingo Marquez (Elma) and Nancy Vasquez (Antonio); and her niece Minerva Salinas.
She is survived by: her children, Pete Martinez Jr. (Hilda) of Freer, Texas, Jeff Martinez (Terri) of Freer, Texas, Greg Martinez (Rachelle) of Galveston, Texas, Elvia Alaniz Vasquez of Freer, Texas, Alma Cavazos Guajardo (Tommy) of Freer, Texas, Linda Alaniz (Angel) of Freer, Texas, Jessica Barrera (Rey) of Belton, Texas and Ana Rodriguez (Bobby) of Houston, Texas; and her sister Geraldine Gonzalez. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Garza Funeral Home - Freer (120 S Sun Ave, Freer, TX 78357). A rosary will be held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
