He was predeceased by: his parents, James Audie and Betty Downey (Williams); his son Billy Gene Downey; his granddaughter McKenna Brooke Downey; and his siblings, Alton Downey, Milburn Downey, Neta Faye Hart and Dawl Wayne Downey.

He is survived by: his son Nelson Bros; his wife Tina Downey of Gainesville; his children, Betty Jackson (Olen) of Gainesville, Ruby Walker (Dwayne) of Athens, Erman Downey Jr. (Angie) of Gainesville and Darla Kearney of Valley View; and his brothers, Herman Dean Downey (Naomi) of Ratliff City, OK and Wendell Downey (Mary) of Krum. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
