He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Hermes and Cecelia Flusche Hermes; his brother William; his sister-in-law Mary Evelyn Hermes; his brother Julius Hermes; his siblings-in-law, Joann Hermes and Earl Hess; and his in-laws, Rupert, Jeannie Hoenig, Eleanora, Carl Pelzel, Jerome, Cece Hoenig, Raymond Hoenig and Lucille Hoenig.
He is survived by: his wife Edna Mae Hoenig Hermes; his children, Ronnie (Dana), David (Melissa), Eugene (Lora), Larry (Kitie), Shirley Krueger (Jeff), Gayle (Amanda), Dale, Beverly Fisher (Ronnie) and Leroy (Christy); his siblings, Walter Hermes, Patricia Hermes Fleitman (John David), Patrick (Carol), Marcella Hermes Zimmerer (Billy) and Mary Ann Hermes Hess; and his sisters-in-law, Clara Hermes, Cecelia Hoenig and Rita Hoenig Cottle. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, and twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A prayer was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 at 6:00 PM at the J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home (602 Lindsay St, Gainesville, TX 76240). Visitation was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM and at 7:30 PM at the Carroll & Son Funeral Home (602 Lindsay St, Gainesville, TX 76240). A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Peter's Catholic Church (424 Main St, Lindsay, TX 76250). A committal service was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. Peter's Cemetery (424 Main St, Lindsay, TX 76250). A burial was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at the same location.
