He is survived by: his wife Gwendolyn Bates; his children, Bruce Bates, Jr. and Candace Bates; his grandsons, Xavier Carter Billiot, Gabriel Alexander Billiot, Jeremiah Brenton Billiot and Braxton Elijah Billiot; his siblings, James, Bates, Jr., Warren Bates (Sharon), Howard Bates, Wendol Bates and Rosemary Bates; and his siblings-in-law, Charles Anderson, Alphonse Duncan (Roselle), Walter Anderson (Tonette), Anthony Duncan, Jerry Duncan, Shirley Shaffer, Marilyn Anderson (Arthur, Sr.), Neicy Wilson (Calvin), Patricia Lenoir and Cynthia Stepter (Mitchell). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
