He was predeceased by: his parents, Oneta A. Preston (Watson) and Doctor James Preston; his son John David Preston; and his stepson James Shumate. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Preston; his children, Diane Carpenter (Steve), Sandra Withrow (Mike), Donna Robinson (Steve), Shelly Smith (Jeff) and Scott Shumate; and his siblings, Paul Preston (Judy), Ricky Preston (Gina) and Ann Self. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
