He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Edward Pfiester (Bunk) and Sammie; and his sons, Donald Keith and Samuel Boyd. He is survived by: his wife Karen Ann Bryce; his daughters, Jaybie Thurmond (Tom) of The Woodlands and Rachel Miller (Jon); his brothers, Sam (Rebecca) and Eddie (Cyndy); and his sister-in-law Julie (Mike). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his honor to the American Heart Association.
