He is survived by: his daughter Marisa Bates; his mother Janie Bates; his stepmother Marilyn Bates; his former wife Katy Bates; his sisters, Stacey Emery and Stephanie Deraad; and his nieces and nephews, Colton, River, Douglas, Jaden, Madison and Mallory. He is also survived by many other extended family members and friends.

Brian chose to give the gift of life to others through organ donation.
