He was predeceased by : his parents, Vera Carter (Lewis) and Ivey Carter; and his siblings, Avant Carter, Sylvanus Carter, Arlis Carter, Felice Carter, Buford Carter, Wiley Carter, Curtis Carter, Tommy Carter and Avalyn Hill (Carter).

He is survived by : his children, Elizabeth Dawn Carter and John Robert Carter; and his sisters-in-law, Joann Carter and Vickie Carter.
