She was predeceased by : her parents, Marian Atkins Wells and Henry Deskins "Deck" Wells; and her husband Dr. Ansel Lewis McDowell, Jr.. She is survived by : her children, Marian McDowell of Alexandria, Linda McDowell Offermann (Martin) of Stade, Ansel McDowell, III (Elizabeth) of Bedford and Stewart McDowell (Alison) of Galveston; her brother Henry Wells (Carol) of Dallas, Texas; and her grandchildren, Adam Slaughter (Sandra) of Houston, Douglas McDowell of Chattanooga, Tenn, Meredith McDowell Ogle (Tyler) of San Antonio, John Offermann of Munich, Christine Offermann of Stade, Matthew McDowell of Houston, Amanda McDowell of Galveston and Helen McDowell of Harrisonburg. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
