He was predeceased by: his parents, James Harold Birdwell and Ruby Nora Chewnings Birdwell; his sister Betty Lou Warren; his brother-in-law Eugene "Boots" Warren; his brother Howard Thomas Birdwell; his nephew Marty Warren; and his brothers-in-law, Cecil McDonald, Lindon McDonald and Matt McDonald.
He is survived by: his wife Bettye Birdwell of Hooks, Texas; his sons, James Lee Birdwell (Sherry) of Wake Village and Barry Lynn Birdwell (Leslie) of Simms, Texas; his grandchildren, Braeden Birdwell, Christopher Birdwell and Wynter Birdwell; and his great grandchildren, Kayson Shaw and Casslynn Birdwell.
