He is survived by: his wife Sarah Tait Powell; his daughter Katherine Tait Powell (Christopher Bangs); his grandchildren, Tait Murray Powell, Hope Linley Bangs and Bremner Quinn Bangs; his son William Armistead Powell (Megan Kuhn Powell); his grandchildren, Owen Armistead Powell and Madeline Eloise Powell; his siblings, Edward Lewis Powell, Jr. (Ned) and Edith Reed Powell; and his siblings-in-law, Virginia Thomas Powell, Rob Jones and Cheri Jones. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
