He was predeceased by : his parents, Hampton Johnston and Jessie Edens Johnston; his sister Wydette; his brother-in-law Dr. Ned Barrett; his sister Mary Read; and his sister-in-law Peggy Moore.

He is survived by : his wife Virginia Moore Johnston; his children, Mary Martha (John Pickens) of Dallas and Bill (Rachel Johnston) of Kerrville; his grandsons, Will Johnston of Kerrville, Luke Johnston of Kerrville and Jackson Johnston of Kerrville; his brother Roy; his siblings-in-law, Carolyn Johnston of San Antonio, Jack and Kathy Moore of Kerrville; and his friend Juan Martinez of Ingram, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hunt United Methodist Church or the First Methodist Church of Junction.
