He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Louis C. McCarty and Lillian McCarty; his siblings, L. C., T. W., J. V. McCarty and Helen Shipp; his half-brothers, Vernon and Will McCarver; his son Lawrence "Larry" Edward McCarty, Jr.; his stepson Michael "Chopper" Sowersby; his cousins, Willie "Buster" and Raymond McCarty; his children, John McCarty of Benson, Michael McCarty of Houston, Texas and Maureen Watson (Doug) of Bellville, Texas; his stepdaughter Terri Wick (Jonathan) of Bisbee; his grandchildren, Cody McCarty, Kalynn McCarty, Cameron McCarty, Kelsie McCarty, Kylie McCarty, Brandyn Staehlin, Mackenzie Watson and Kennedy Watson; his sisters-in-law, Nanette and Ellen McCarty; and his close friends, Robert "Ski" and Ruby Cwalenski. He was also cherished by three brothers and a sister, plus cousins who were like his brothers, and a nephew Leon, who was like a brother.
