He was predeceased by: his parents, Oran Lawson and Nellie Simmons (Kirkland); his son Kevin Michael; his sisters, Jackie Rawley and Peggie Wilson; and his son-in-law Steven Hiles.

He is survived by: his wife Donna Simmons (Thomas); his daughters, Malinda Hiles and Kimberly Golen; his son-in-law Jeffrey Golen of Granbury, Texas; his grandchildren, Kevin Hiles (Rachel), Collin Hiles (Kendall), Kathryn Hiles and Hailey Golen; his great grandchildren, Tatum, Hollis Hiles (Kevin) and Stephen Dean Hiles (Collin); and his sister Carol Beams of Granbury. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
