He was predeceased by: his parents, Leon Truett Thigpen and Edna Ophelia Fleming Thigpen; and his grandparents, Rev. L. A. Thigpen, Amy Burnett Thigpen, Albert Fleming and Willie Covington Fleming Ditto.
He is survived by: his sister Susan Van Bogelen (Craig). He is also survived by nieces, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
