It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bertha Mae Smith of Jefferson, Texas, born in Lodi, Texas, who passed away on January 4, 2024, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her husband Sterling Smith; and her daughters, Piney Ree Smith, Gloria Ann Smith and Annie Pearl Wheeler. She is survived by: her brother Thomas Jackson; and her children, Sterling Smith, Jr. (Spurgeon), Kenneth Smith (Shelia), Carolyn Haynes (Howard), Sweetie Cole (Hardy Ray), Linda McCullars (Reancis), Arlene F. Smith (Oscar Booth) and Beverly Miller (Eddie Ray Hill). She is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren.

She was a devoted church member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, and later on when those doors closed, she joined Belview Baptist Church and was a devoted member until Covid 19 happened and she could no longer attend.
