He was predeceased by: his parents, Austin Vinson and Peggy Ware Thomas; his sister Deborah Vinson Lasch; and his brother-in-law Ray Lasch. He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Vinson; his children, David Vinson Jr. (Jennifer) and Rhonda Brown (Makeba); his stepchildren, Brett Roper (Allison), Beau Roper (Courtney) and Brittany Roper (Kristi); his sister Beverly Vinson Horn (Meredith); his siblings-in-law, Michael Nugent (Dianne) and Elizabeth Nugent; and his uncle Peyton Ware (Nancy). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in David's honor to the American Liver Foundation.
