He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Evelyn; his daughters, Judy Brannon (Biff), Deb Pilcher Corbitt (Clay) and Lorraine Hursman; his grandchildren, Lauren, Ava Brannon, Jacob Pilcher (Caileen), Matthew, Rebekah Pilcher, Paige and Lily Hursman; his parents, Mike Smith and Agnes Smith; his in-laws, Charlie and Evelyn Basso; his sister Loretta Mercurio; his granddaughter Anna Claire Pilcher; and his son-in-law Wally Pilcher.
Visitation was held on Thursday, February 19th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Schmidt Funeral Home - Grand Parkway (1344 W Grand Pkwy S, Katy, TX 77494). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, February 20th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church (5356 11th St, Katy, TX 77493).
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donating to a favorite charity or one close to Gerard's heart. He supported Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnel to Towers Foundation and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
