He is survived by: his son Michael Gillespie (Sheri); his grandsons, Blake of Katy, Texas. and Preston Gillespie of Katy, Texas.; his daughter Carolyn Drechsel (Ryan); his grandchildren, Taylor and Quinn of San Antonio, Texas.; his sister-in-law Sudie Rushton; and his niece MaryCatherine Rushton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Georgia (UGA) Miracle.
