He was predeceased by: his son James Harold Matthews Jr. "Jimmy"; his parents, Elvin Matthews and Lillian Matthews; and his brother Kenneth Matthews. He is survived by: his wife Lucille Matthews; and his children, Sandy Matthews Garcia of Victoria, Virginia Matthews Holt of San Antonio and Sharon Matthews Hendrix (Maverick Hendrix) of Marble Falls. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
