He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Nicholas "Big Nick" Thies and Elizabeth "Betty" Thompson Thies; his wife Sharon; his sons, Nicholas John "Chip" Thies, Jr. and Paul Andrew Thies; his daughters-in-law, Velma and Angie; his grandchildren, Hannah, Nicholas, Isabella, Christina, Lilah and Jonathan; and his great grandchild Asa. He was also cherished by child, he counted 40 first cousins and an untold number of aunts, uncles and relatives.
