He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John William and Frances Mitchell (Cowen); his children, Brandon Mitchell (Sherry) of Lamesa, David Mitchell of Lamesa, Roxanne Campos of Midland, Stephanie Chavarria of Lamesa and DeeAnna Foster Mitchell of Lovington; his siblings, Phyllis Crosby (Scott) of The Woodlands and John Mitchell (Delores) of Lamesa; his daughter-in-law Kelly Johnston of Robert Lee; his grandchildren, Nathan Lynn Mitchell, John Wesley Mitchell, Scarlett Mitchell, Natalie Chavarria, Andreana Raquel Campos, Ilana Navarrette, Anthony Navarrette, Kaylee McCracken and Caleb Foster; his great grandchildren, Chase Mitchell and Aubriella Mitchell; and his pet Buster Douglas Mitchell. He was also cherished by five step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren.
