He is survived by: his wife Paula Saldaña; his children, Juan Chavez, Maria Elena Chavez, Rosalie Candelaria (Venancio) and Teresa Chavez Mendez (Teodoro); his grandchildren, Steve Candelaria, Jennifer Candelaria, Adrian Candelaria, Michael Candelaria, Alexis Mendez, Jesus Mendez and Juan Francisco Mendez; and his niece Rosalinda Cardenas Delgado (Carlos).
