He was predeceased by: his parents, Julia Vela and Horacio Vela; his wife Raquel Vela; his grandson Ricardo Antonio Lujan; and his sister Leticia Anderson.
He is survived by: his children, Raquel Lujan (Ricardo) and Ricardo Vela Jr.; his grandchildren, Zariah Vela, Isaac Pirtle, Ricky Vela and Emmett Lujan; and his siblings, Julie Vela, Sara Lopez, Pat Vela, Diana Vela, Jaime Vela (Monica), Jesus Vela, Javier Vela (Aracely) and Horacio Vela (Rosie).
