He was predeceased by: his parents, Buck McElroy and Audrey McElroy (Mallow); his children, Kip McElroy and Kimberly McElroy; and his siblings, Ima Jean Curry, Jasper David Jr., Bud, Velma Duncan, Irene Pickett, Margie Osborne, Mary June McElroy, Dorothy Oden, Wayne McElroy and Ronnie McElroy.
He is survived by: his wife Janice McElroy of Littlefield; his daughter Ashley McElroy Cotton (Justin) of Lubbock; and his brother Joe McElroy (Clara) of Lubbock. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the New Mexico Children's Home (1356 NM 236 Portales, NM 88130) or the Children's Home of Lubbock (4404 Idalou Road, Lubbock TX 79403).
