It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bobby Joe Rice of Longview, Texas, who passed away on December 7, 2025, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Bobby Joe Rice to pay them a last tribute.
He was predeceased by: his parents, C. L. Rice and Elsie Rice. He is survived by: his wife Ernestine Thompson Rice; his children, Mary Hagens (Tim), Carol Smith (Philip), Robin Rice (Angel), Sandi Mulkey (Steve) and Dana Rice; his sister Carmon Rike; his daughter Frances Graham; his granddaughter Amy Barrett; his daughter Liz Rodriguez; and his caregivers, Laura Wilson and Tumeka West. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 10th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Downs Funeral Home. A funeral service was held on Thursday, December 11th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. A burial was held on Thursday, December 11th 2025 at the Pope City Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Spring Hill First Baptist Church, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or the East Texas Alzheimer's Alliance.
