He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucille Johnson and Jesse Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Willie Dean; his children, Naomi Smith, Dirona Robinson (Lester), Chrystl Ardoin (Darrell), Kimberley Smith, Margene Smith (Latisha) and Courtney Smith; his sister Margaret Black; and his siblings-in-law, Vernell, Mertie, Mary, Ella, William, Edmund and Wilton (Linda). He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
