He was predeceased by: his parents, Bill Bownds and Marcie Lee Bownds; his sons, Russell Brian Bownds and Paul Scott Bownds; and his siblings, Rudy, Kelly Bownds and Glenda Edwards.

He is survived by: his wife Joyce Barnes; his children, Jack Allen Bownds, Jr. of Lubbock and Elisha Mayfield of Lubbock; his daughters-in-law, Jennifer Bownds and Amber Cotton; and his siblings, Billy Bownds and Peggy Brown. He is also survived by five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
