He was predeceased by: his parents, Elizabeth Fitzgerald (Stewart) and Jackson Maston Fitzgerald; his siblings, Chris "Buck" Fitzgerald, Calvin "Dinky" Fitzgerald, Jo Ann Wisbey and Kathryn Judd; and his brother-in-law H. M. "Wick" Wilkinson.

He is survived by: his wife Pam Hughes Fitzgerald of Lufkin; his children, Jacob (Micaela Fitzgerald), Wade (Morgan Fitzgerald) and Natalie; his son-in-law Colby Allen of Lufkin; his grandchildren, Brendan Fitzgerald, Samuel Fitzgerald, Grant Fitzgerald, Tatum Fitzgerald and Anniston Allen; his siblings, Della Lumpkin (Billy) of Lufkin, Janette Wilkinson of Lufkin, Mittie Mills of Lufkin and Jimmy Fitzgerald (Kathy) of Lufkin; his siblings-in-law, Jack Hughes (Susan) of Lavon and Sandi Teer (Gary) of New Braunfels; and his grandson Reece Fitzgerald. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
