He was predeceased by: his mother Lessie V. Avery (Harrell); his son-in-law William Lowe; and his grandson Keith Letney. He is survived by: his wife Molly Jo Avery of Lufkin; his son Ben; his daughter-in-law Kim Avery of White Oak; his daughters, Charlene Lowe and Alicia (John Bennett); his grandchildren, Christine (Luke Tarbutton), Anna Bennett-Gabay, Isaac (Stormie Avery) and Savannah Avery; and his great grandchildren, Addison Kate Avery, Leilani Tarbutton and Elle Tarbutton. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
