He was predeceased by: his parents, Elma Rhea (Hartless) and Lloyd Edwards Gates. He is survived by: his wife Linda Gates of Lufkin; his sons, Bill Gates of Huntington and Jason Gates (Aimee) of LaVernia; his grandchildren, Claire Gates (Wesley Pack), Lainey Gates (Jackson Sheffield) and William "Liam" Gates III; his siblings, Ricky Gates of Livingston, Marty Gates of Livingston, Troy Gates of Livingston, Woody Gates (Kim) of Conroe, Ricky Putman of Conroe and Donna Rabel (Darrell) of Conroe; and his close friends, Kimberly Johnson, Kent Jones and Richard Thomas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
