He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Ellis, Sr. and Adele York Ellis; his siblings, John H. Ellis, Jr. and Carolyn Williams; and his wife Nancy Cook.

He is survived by: his children, Eve Ellis, Galen Ellis and Ann Shigley; and his grandchildren, Lacy Vaughan, Robyn Minatrea, Michael Shigley and Aiden Shigley. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren along with other family and friends.
