With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Merlene Johnston (Mesquite, Texas), born in Emory, Texas, who passed away on March 27, 2025 at the age of 95. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, John Shumate and Minnie Shumate (Dial); her husband Herman Johnston; her children, Geniece Hamilton, Johnny Johnston, Eloise Walk and Jimmy Johnston; and her siblings, Melvin Shumate, Marvin Shumate, Maurita Edwards and Marcelle Ashley.
She is survived by: her daughter Diana Waggoner. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren along with a host of extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Humane Society of North Texas. Keep Merlene's legacy alive by donating to a charity in need.
