He is survived by: his wife Ester Nelson of Midland, Texas; his children, Eva Collins (Darius) of Odessa, Texas, Kit Nelson (Connie) of Bellville, Ohio, Joyce Nelson of Lubbock, Texas, Rosie Hosendove of Midland, Texas, Tina Nelson of Midland, Texas, Bobby Ray Nelson (Teri) of Vaughn, Montana and Linda Jenkins-El of Durham; his sister Helen Brown; his aunt Johnnie Mae Ellis of Midland, Texas; his close friend Brenda Perkins; and his caregiver Johnnie Jennings. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Viewing was held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Mayberry Funeral Home (406 E Illinois Ave, Midland, TX 79701). A wake was held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (2101 Tarleton St, Midland, TX 79707). A burial was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 at the Fairview Cemetery (1620 N A St, Midland, TX 79705).
