She was predeceased by: her parents, Salome Cantu and Lorenza Cantu; her husband Diego M. Cano, Jr.; her siblings, Eva Villarreal, Amador Cantu, Lydia Magallanes, Reynoldo Cantu, Vicente Cantu, Jose Cantu, Santiago Cantu, Manuela Escamilla, Jesus Cantu and Salome Cantu Jr.; and her granddaughter Addison Cano.
She is survived by: her children, Diana Cano-Flores (Santiago) of Big Spring, Texas, D'Arcy Cano of Haslet, Texas, Denis Cano (Elizabeth) of Mason, Texas and Dolores Cano-Hernandez (Joe) of Midland; her grandchildren, Nina Hudson, Ryan Cano, Jason Cano, Amanda Martinez (Jon), Adam Cano (Makenzi), Joshua Cano, McKenzie Cano, Madison Cano and Aiden Cano; her daughters, Judy Jimenez of Midland and Melody Stewart (Marion) of Haslet; her brother Tony Cantu (Delia) of San Antonio; and her children, David Herrera, Irma Molinar, Yolanda Kennedy, Pat Cantu and Julie Frizzell. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Following the pandemic, Maria began attending Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Shrine with her daughters, joyfully returning to her Catholic roots.
