He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederico Gonzales and Rosa Gonzales; his brother Narciso Gonzales; his siblings-in-law, Lois Gonzales, Frank Smith and Frances Gonzales; his nephew Michael Cordova; and his parents-in-law, Bob True and Sue True.

He is survived by: his wife Loretta Gonzales (True) of Midland, TX; his children, Samuel Gonzales of Midland, TX, Elizabeth Svoboda (Jeremy) of Lincoln, NE and Joseph Gonzales (Kelly) of Fayetteville, NC; his granddaughter Nichole Bowling of Muskogee, OK; his siblings, Angie Cordova (Joe) of Portales, NM, Johnny Gonzales of Portales, NM, Diana Smith of Portales, NM, Fred Gonzales (Sheila) of Rio Rancho, NM, Pat Gonzales (Corrine) of Portales, NM, Jesse Gonzales (Donnel) of Bayfield, CO and Molly Durden (Steve) of Statesboro, GA; his siblings-in-law, Charles True (Beth) of Houston, TX, Gene True (Jimena) of Midland, TX, Jeaneatte True of Albuquerque, NM and Diane White (John) of Midland, TX; and his grandchildren, Courtney Svoboda, Colin Svoboda, Adelaide Gonzales and Killian Gonzales. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was held on Monday, July 21st 2025 at 9:00 AM at the St. Stephen's Catholic Church (4601 Neely Ave, Midland, TX 79707). A funeral service was held on Monday, July 21st 2025 at 10:00 AM at the St. Stephens Catholic Church (4601 Neely Ave, Midland, TX 79707).

In Sammy's honor, the family requests that donations be made to Helping Hands to continue Sammy's legacy of volunteering.
