He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas E. Dykes and Geraldine; his stepmothers, Linda and Frances; and his brothers, William "Billy" Dykes, Andy Hammons, Clifton "Rusty" Hiltz and Wesley Dykes.

He is survived by: his children, Amy Lawhead (Aaron) of Aubrey and Bradley Dykes of Houston; and his grandsons, Benjamin and Conrad. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
